With the progress of two weeks, we’re off to a good start to the 2018-2019 YONA school year! This year we are pleased to announce new additions to the YONA staff: Ms. Kristin as our Site Assistant, Mr. Andrew as our Percussion Teaching Artist, Mr. Nathaniel as our Viola Teaching Artist, and Ms. Nava as our Cello Teaching Artist.
Welcoming cheers and excitement could be heard as Teaching Artists performed their first day introductions to new and returning students. The new students, who graduated from YONA Explorers, found their way to their respective teams through a color based matching activity led by Ms. Jacquie, our Site Manager. After spending some time mingling and creating a unique team cheer, the assembly concludes with our customary game of Funky Chicken!
During these weeks, teachers and students took to learning new routines as well as familiarizing themselves to new classroom spaces. The new violin and bass students have also created their own set of cardboard instruments which they will use to build skills and knowledge in preparation for handling a real instrument.
Enjoy photos from the first week and stay tuned for a special graduation ceremony happening later this term!
