june at YONA - part two

We had so much fun at YONA this June, we couldn't fit it all into one blog post!  Here's the second installment of our June update.

After the excitement of Road to Joy, we wound down the year with various fun activities (e.g. Volunteer Appreciation day) and a year-end concert. This concert was a celebration of all the work each student and team member put in throughout the year, with performances from all and a round of thank-yous from the students to each Teaching Artist.  Teamir and Yabsira said an extra-special thank-you to our cello TA, Ms. Kathleen, who's leaving us for an orchestral job in Nova Scotia.

We also made a special presentation to John Groten, the principal at St. Alphonsus School, who retired at the end of this school year and who has been a huge supporter of YONA for years. We will miss him immensely!

Our fourth year of YONA ended with an amazing barbecue, organized by our friends at the Rotary Club of Edmonton Glenora. A whole crew of Rotary members arrived, set up tables and barbecues, and fed all of our YONA students, staff, and most of our YONA families as well. This was a fantastic way to end our year together - thank you, Rotary Club of Edmonton Glenora!

That wraps up the fourth year of YONA! Next year will hold even more excitement, with the addition of 20 new students from three schools and the graduation of our 20 eldest students into Junior High! Stay tuned for more updates in the fall.

From all of us at YONA, thank you for your support and have a great summer!
