Last week was an exciting week at YONA!
Monday was Volunteer Appreciation Day. Each team of YONA students was responsible for planning, preparing, and present an activity and/or gift for the YONA volunteers, who were invited to visit each team throughout the day. Some students made personalized mugs for each volunteer, others led the them in games or taught them dance moves. Some students even gave lessons on their instrument to the volunteers! Here's Mr. Ken, who gives his time to us each week, with his swag at the end of the day. Thank you to all of our volunteers; without you, YONA wouldn't be possible!
On Tuesday and Wednesday, our YONA Explorers students presented their year-end concerts at Delton and Mother Teresa Schools! YONA Explorers is a one-day-per-week program that began this year, as an intro to YONA for interested students. Ms. Joan worked with the students from October through June on general musicianship, singing, and movement skills, and some of them will be joining us in "big YONA" (as they call it) next year!
Lastly, Friday was an exciting day as well! YONA Staff presented a recital for students and their families, which was followed by a barbeque generously presented by the Glenora Rotary Club! Thank you, Glenora Rotary, for your support of the program and of our families - we really had a wonderful time!
Today, we have yet another exciting event - the third annual Road to Joy concert, where the 54 YONA students perform on-stage at the Winspear Centre with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra! Stay tuned for a post about this event.
