a busy YONA week...

Last week was super busy at YONA!

On Tuesday, our new brass students built their very own French horns and trombones out of plastic tubing, funnels, and duct tape!  This was an exciting day, and the students are looking forward to swapping out their hand-made instruments for the real thing this week after they show that they can respect and care for them.

Then, on Wednesday, one of our String Quartets and most of our 4th-year violin students represented the La Bruyére Orchestra of YONA-Sistema at a reception for Members of the Legislative Assembly, held at the beautiful new Federal Building at the Alberta Legislature.  They thought this gig was pretty swanky, especially since we needed swipe cards to get in and out of the performance space!

Lastly, Saturday night was an exciting night for one of our beloved former Teaching Artists - after tons of hard work and practicing, Ms. Deborah beautifully performed her Graduate-level recital at Convocation Hall at the University of Alberta.  YONA student Yun came to support her, along with Mr. Nathan, Ms. Lauren, Ms. Alyssa, and Ms. Sasha (not pictured).  Congratulations, Ms. Deborah!

This upcoming week is another exciting one, with another couple of performances and our Woodwind/Brass instrument graduation!  Stay tuned for photos and details from those events, and keep warm in the meantime!
