Welcome back, everyone! We're now more than a week into the third year of the YONA program, and I'm so excited to share some photos from the first day back.
On the first day, despite minor bussing issues, all 54 students arrived at our new location (the wonderful St. Alphonsus School) and were welcomed by their teachers, bearing nutritious snacks (the most important part of the day!). This year, YONA students come not only from Mother Teresa School, but also from Delton School, AND we have four new teachers with us, so the day began with lots of name games and get-to-know-you activities.
After these games and introductions of each YONA team, students' families were invited to gather and assist with building paper instruments. Families of returning students collaborated with families of new students, building violins, violas, cellos, and basses out of cardboard and drums out of buckets. New YONA students will use these paper instruments until they have demonstrated that they can be trusted with a real one, and along the way will learn a variety of songs that will help build their skills and knowledge in preparation for receiving the real thing!
Take a look at these photos from the day - it was a fun start to what promises to be a fantastic year!
